Who is Govinda Odeyaru?
Sri Vyasarajaru was the Kulapathi for Vijayanagara Vishwavidyaalaya. During that period so many pundits, so many yathees of different parampare invited Sri Vyasarajaru for “vaagvaada”. Agreeing for the vaagvada, Sri Vyasarajaru argued in favour of Madhwa matha and proved that none of the other siddanthas are in line with Vedavyasaru.
The persons who argued with Vyasarajaru were not ordinary pundits. All were stalwarts in their tatvas. After being defeated by Vyasarajaru some of the yathees, started repenting for having accepted Advaitha. One amongst them was Sri Govinda Tirtharu, who, was an advaitee pontiff so far, felt the need for joining Madhwa Tathva and the importance of Vaishnavatva and he surrendered before the feet of Sri Vyasarajaru and told “ So far I had followed a philosophy which was against the Vedavyasa’s wordings. I would like to come out of the “bhrama or maaya” tathva , please accept my shishyatva”.
Sri Vyasarajaru agreed and with the danda pallata gave sanya deekshe again with tapta chakrana and mantropadesha. Sri Govinda Tirtharu, after taking Vaishnava deekshe, also served the daasa parampare with many krutees in the form of sulaadees with the ankita “muddukrishna”.
He entered Vrundavana 5 years prior to Vyasarajaru itself in Navavrundavana in 1534 AD on Phalguna Krishna panchami day.
